As Nigerian youths cheered for a protest on August 1 to end bad governance and the high rate of inflation in the economy, traditional worshippers came up with their plans for that day.

The traditional worshippers in Lagos State, through a notice addressed to residents and visitors that went viral yesterday, said their Oro festival will be held across Lagos State from August 1st through 15th.

However, the State government, through the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, denied having a hand in disrupting the August 1st protest with the traditional worshippers festival.

Speaking on Wednesday in Lagos State, Akosile said that just the way the youths have the right to protest #EndBadGovt, the same right goes to the traditional worshippers to perform their activities.

He, therefore, advised both sides to maintain peace by not standing in each other’s way, but if the protest turns violent, security personnel on ground will make sure it doesn’t turn into blood.

Furthermore, some state governors have been beckoning youths of their states to shun the August 1st protest and went as far as having meetings to see to the demands of these youths.
