The sixty-nine gay suspects arrested during a wedding ceremony in Ekpan community on August 27, 2023, have been granted bail.

According to Ochuko Ohimor, the counsel to the suspects said they were granted conditional bail on Tuesday in Warri with the sum of N500,000 and two sureties each, which resides within the Effurun court jurisdiction.

Ohimor also said an undertaking must be signed by the suspects at the Effurun Division of the Delta State High Court, where they were earlier arraigned on September 4.

The police prosecutor, Vincent Orarumen had opposed the bail condition, but their lawyer argued otherwise, saying the alleged crime was not a capital offence.

Recall that on August 29, 2023, with an order from the Police Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, the suspects were paraded after an arrest for allegedly conducting an all-white gay wedding ceremony.
