The new tax reform law has faced various criticisms, with many calling for its suspension after a gazetted copy different from what the National Assembly passed was shared online.

Despite calls and pleas, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, has promised that under his mandate, the tax law will still stand for the stipulated date, January 1, 2026.

President Tinubu made this known in a statement released on Tuesday, stating that this is a rare historical opportunity to build a more equitable, competitive, and sustainable tax system for the country.

He emphasized that the reforms were not aimed at increasing burdens on Nigerians but at overhauling the existing framework to improve efficiency, harmonize tax administration, and uphold the dignity of citizens while reinforcing trust between the government and the people.
