Security Operatives Arrest Suspected Bandits’ Informant Over ₦10m Extortion Threat in Sokoto

Joint security operatives in Sokoto State have arrested a suspected criminal informant accused of leaking operational intelligence to bandit groups operating around the Romo community in Tambuwal Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Ashiru Abubakar, a native of Gumfa Gebe village in Wamakko Local Government Area, was apprehended following intelligence-led tracking linking him to active criminal syndicates in the region.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Abubakar allegedly served as a primary link in issuing a violent threat to residents of Romo community, demanding a ₦10 million ransom ultimatum under the threat of an imminent armed attack.

The arrest comes amidst heightened security operations across Tambuwal and neighboring local government areas following recent civil demonstrations by residents protesting a surge in rural banditry, targeted kidnappings, and village raids.

Security agencies confirmed that interrogation of the suspect is ongoing to identify co-conspirators and dismantle the local informant network aiding armed groups in the state.
