Delta Allied Health Workers Suspend Strike

Allied health workers across Delta State have suspended their industrial action after the state government committed to paying outstanding uniform allowances, with negotiations set to continue regarding their remaining administrative demands.

The suspension was announced following a high-level intervention led by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, during a joint meeting with leadership representatives from the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) and the Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI).

Under the resolution, union members are directed to resume full clinical and technical duties across all state-owned healthcare facilities beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

The health workers had previously downed tools to demand the immediate settlement of accrued allowances, improved welfare packages, and institutional reforms across public hospitals.

Health officials confirmed that while the agreement on uniform allowances addresses a primary grievance, a joint committee will continue dialogue to resolve outstanding operational issues without disrupting public healthcare services.
