Momentum is gathering in Rivers State over the hunger protest, and the police command has revealed that in some areas, a disturbing trend is ongoing.
This is as the State Command spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the breakdown of law and order witnessed in some areas calls for caution as the protest has become disorganized with no clear leadership or coordinator.
Earlier, before the protest, police operatives pledged their support to the safety of protesters, but the turnout of violence erupting in some parts of the state and lack of leadership made it difficult to maintain peace.
The command spokesperson revealed that with the burning of tires, motorist extortion, roadblocks, damaging of vehicles, and harassing business owners, it’s imperative to let protesters know that no act of violence will be condoned in the state.
Furthermore, Iringe-Koko stressed that some groups had threatened to make things dangerous on August 7th, calling traders and motorists to either stay at home or join the protest. She warned extensively that such acts would not be tolerated.
