On Tuesday, the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly returned the N100,000 credited into their personal accounts on the directive of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The House, in a statement signed by Hon. Enemi Alabo George, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions, and Complaints, disclosed that all members of the 10th Assembly received the unsolicited bank alerts that were not approved by the legislature.
The Assembly stressed that, as an institution, all public expenditures must follow due process and receive legislative approval. Hence, they refused the funds, accusing the governor of repeatedly withdrawing funds from the state’s consolidated revenue account without approval since assuming office in 2023, despite warnings from the House and existing Supreme Court judgments.
