School children ages 5-10 who were abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State, have been reunited with their families amidst tears and jubilation on Monday.
The students, who have spent weeks in captivity, looked malnourished but were excited to see their families as they assembled at the government house in Niger.
Applauding the Nigerian security agencies for securing the release of the 100 students, President Bola Tinubu insisted that the job must be completed by getting the remaining 115 still in captivity, along with their teachers, freed from the kidnappers.
One of the school children, Florence Michael, recounting their ordeal in captivity, said the kidnappers forced them to lie on a trampoline inside a thick bush near a river, warning that any noise would attract beatings and delay their return home.
