Possible Coup In Niger Republic As Soldiers Seals President’s Residence

For what appeared to be a coup in the landlocked area of Niger Republic, the residence and offices of the nation’s president, Mohamed Bazoum have been restricted from access by members of Niger Presidential Guard Soldiers.

It is still unclear what called for the coup on Wednesday but a source close to the president said it was from tension risen from the elite troops.

Reports from Reuters say ministries that are close to the palace have been blocked off, while staff inside the palace have not been able to access their offices.

However, in the other parts, Niamey the capital of Niger is reported calm and peaceful.

Furthermore, discussions are ongoing between the president and the guard soldiers in the landlocked region.
