Police Offer Family N100k After Crushing Woman To Death In Nasarawa

The immediate and extended families of Ashenenye residing in Nasarawa State, are outraged over the death of their 35-year-old daughter killed by a police officer in the State and the command offering one hundred thousand naira for her burial.

Patience Akla Ashenenye was crushed by an Hilux van driving from the government house with speed and ran into the motorbike she was riding with her three-month-old baby on October 21, 2024, behind the Ta’al Conference Hotel, next to the School of Health, Lafia.

Immediately after the accident occurred, the rider of the motorbike, Tasiu Mohammed, Ashenenye, and her child were rushed to the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital, but she died 20 minutes later.

According to the brother of late Mrs Patience, George Akube revealed to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism, FIJ, that two days after her death, during the wake keep, two DPOs came with N100,000 that it was to assist with the funeral, but was rejected by the family.

Akube said the family are interested in getting justice for their late sister whose son is still receiving treatment for his broken leg at the hospital.

Confirmation from the State Police Command PRO, Ramhan Nansel, said delegates were sent by the CP Umar Shehu to reduce the stress on the family and assist with the medical bills of others in the hospital.

PPRO further revealed that the police officer driving the van was also hospitalized and treated at the police clinic, Lafia as a result of shock but after he was discharged he visited the family but assured that the CP will ensure justice is served for late Mrs Patience.
