Tensions keep rising over the preliminary result that declared Daniel Chapo from the Frelimo Party winner of the October 24 elections even as the people of Mozambique await the final announcement of results.

However, on Monday in Maputo, a protest was disrupted by policemen after opposition presidential candidate Venancio Mondlane had called for a general strike over fraud played by the ruling party to attain victory.

Mondlane was addressing the press, when police targeted his campaign headquarters with tear gas, forcing him and others to flee.

This supposed demonstration comes two days after Venancio Mondlane’s two associates, Elvino Dias, a lawyer, and Paulo Guamba, a member of the Podemos party, were assassinated.
