Police Arrests Father for Allegedly Beating Son’s Teacher to Death

The Delta state Police Command has arrested one Nnajiofor Nweke over the death of a school teacher in Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Agbor after the suspect allegedly flogged the teacher for disciplining his child, Emmanuel Nweke.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, who disclosed this while parading the suspect, narrated that Nweke went to the school premises aggressively in search of one of the school teacher over a punishment meted to his son at the school, on sighting the said teacher, Nweke picked a cane in the school and started flogging the teacher during which another teacher identified as Ufah Sunday, while trying to mediate and stop him slumped and was rushed to central hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

Reacting to this, the state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Rose Ezewu, warned parents to stop treating teachers like slaves as she narrated what the Nigeria Union of Teachers president briefed her which had a different twist as she said the son of the suspect, Emmanuel Nweke was caught with other students stealing palmwine which the said teacher caught them and punished them for it.

According to the story narrated to the Commissioner, the suspect who they said had been troublesome went to the school the next day in search of the teacher, found a cane and flogged him to death. Ezewu said the teacher’ s family have been located and his four children granted scholarship for primary and secondary school.

In the midst of all of these accusations, the said suspect who is a father of three, denied all allegations insisting that he only took his children to school and had nothing to do with the death of the teacher.
