The president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero, has been arrested by the Imo State Police Command during an ongoing protest in the state.

Ajaero was whisked away by the force agency as hoodlums descended on protesters, smashing vehicles and inflicting wounds on labour members.

The Labour leader had earlier on October 31, 2023, announced to all members of the union in Imo State to shut down all sectors including air, land and sea to commence protest today.

Ajaero led the protest against the Hope Uzodimma government for not paying workers and pensioners for over three years and six months and declaration of ghost workers.

NLC president had accused the government of violating and neglecting the welfare of workers which has led to many deaths, due to lack of salaries not paid.
