Three youths in their 20s have been allegedly shot dead and over 20 trucks laden with petroleum products and granites set ablaze by angry youths at Otovwodo, in Ughelli north local government area of Delta state.

The youths had earlier barricaded the Otovwodo axis of the East/West road disrupting vehicular movement and economic activities alleging their incessant arrest by officials of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC.

According to a protester who identified himself as Johnson, “We want peace in Nigeria and they are using EFCC to disorganize and prevent the youths from voting at the 2023 general election and we will not accept it from anyone.”

Another who gave his name as Christian said, “The activities of EFCC are becoming too much, we do not have good roads, schools are on strike, even after graduating, no jobs and they are here chasing shadows.”

Following the protests the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Hon Godwin Adode has imposed a 6am to 6pm curfew in Ughelli town, mostly the popularly Otowodo junction.

The Chairman who made this known in an interview with Crown FM said neither he nor the security agencies were informed about the protest.
