The Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has expressed his excitement over the President’s choice of Gen. Irabor as Chief of Defence Staff.

This was revealed in a statement issued by the Yomi Odunuga, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, to the Deputy Senate President on Wednesday.

It reads: “The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is elated at the choice of Gen. Leo Irabor as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

“It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday approved the appointment of Irabor as the new CDS, alongside other service chiefs.

“The General who hails from Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, was until his appointment the Chief of Defence, Training and Operations (CDTOP) at the Defence Headquarters.

“He was formerly the Theatre Commander of ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’, North-East Nigeria as well as Force Commander Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin Area.

Congratulating the new Chief of Defence Staff, the Deputy Senate President expressed optimism that his competence and decades of experience in tackling security challenges in the country will come to bear during his tenure.

“I join other Nigerians in congratulating you on your recent elevation as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

“Without question, your towering achievements in the military from Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Force Commander Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin Area, Chief of Defence, Training and Operations (CDTOP) at the Defence Headquarters clearly justify your appointment as that which aptly fits the description of putting a round peg in a round hole,” he stated.

Omo-Agege also appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing an indigene of Delta state into the exalted position.
