The Okpako Orere and elders in council of Okere Urhobo Kingdom have accused chairman of Warri South LGA Michael Tidi of using thugs allegedly backed by security personnel to intimidate, harass and install a parallel youth executive in the kingdom.
At a press conference held at Otor Orere, the elders also alleged unlawful interference and meddling with the customs and tradition of the Okere Urhobo people by the chairman, warning that his actions are capable of causing breakdown of law and order.
The Okpako Orere of the kingdom, Apostle Isaac Era-ivo who spoke on behalf of the elders in council said, Hon Tidi, in a bid to further his political ambition purportedly organized the November 7th election which produced a factional executive.
While describing Tidi’s actions as unfortunate, he called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Inspector general of police and the chief of army staff to intervene and avert possible crisis.
Reacting, the LG council through its supervisor for youths, sports and community development, Comrade Elvis Okpako debunked the allegations, describing it as frivolous, maintaining that the chairman did not organize any election.
According to him, Micheal Tidi only ensured the implementation of an agreement that was reached at an earlier meeting with all the parties involved.
