A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Delta State and Senior member of DC-23, Chief Pius Obvidje popularly known as P.OC says former President Olusegun Obasanjo has never stopped writing letters and criticizing the Niger Delta Region, a situation he believes is as a result of old age and hatred for the region.

Obvidje stated that if the oil found in the Niger Delta region does not belong to the Niger Delta alone, than so should other minerals found in other parts of Nigeria

Chief Pius Ovbije made his position known in an interview with Crown FM News Correspondent in Ugwerun in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, while reacting to the statement credited to the former President Obasanjor, saying that the mineral resources from the Niger Delta has always belonged to all Nigerians, when other mineral resources from the South West and North seem to belong to the region, a situation that has drawn indignation among leaders from the Niger Delta Region.

The former Commissioner in the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission asserted that the leaders and elders of the region are solidly behind the accusation of the Niger Delta Elder Statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, that Obasanjor hates the Niger delta region.

Meanwhile, Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has said he has never sabotaged the interests of the Niger Delta region, maintaining that natural resources found in Nigeria belong to the country and not a part of it.

Mr Obasanjo was responding to an open letter by Edwin Clark, the leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, who accused him of acting against the interest of the Niger Delta region.

According to Mr Clark, the former president has continued to push for the marginalization of the Niger Delta people.
