NSIB Commences Investigation Into Crashed Plane At Owerri Airport

The incident that occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the Sam Ibakwe International Cargo Airport in Imo State, involved an aircraft flying from Kaduna Airport to Port Harcourt International Airport. It is now under investigation by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).

The Cessna 172, operated by Skypower Express with registration number 5N-ASR, declared an emergency mid-air and diverted to Owerri Airport with four passengers on board.

In a statement, the NSIB said the aircraft crashed in the approach area while attempting to land on Runway 17. Although no casualties were recorded, the passengers were rushed to the hospital.

The cause of the accident is yet to be determined, but the NSIB has commenced a full investigation.
