Three days on, talks are still ongoing between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the government of Burkina Faso for the release of the 11 soldiers and military C-130 jet held in the Sahel nation.

Various sources from the Nigerian military confirmed on Wednesday that the soldiers and aircraft are still held in Burkina Faso, despite rumors that the Portuguese government had stepped in since the plane was going for maintenance in Portugal.

The matter is being handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and release is expected soon, according to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa.

He said the Nigerian Embassy in Ouagadougou had initiated talks with the Burkina Faso government to secure the release.
