NCAA Gives Stricter Measures for Flight Passengers

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has directed all airline operators in Nigeria to amend their manuals to reflect the requirement that all passengers’ electronic devices be turned off during takeoff and landing of airplanes.

‎This information was communicated at a meeting in Abuja with airline operators, all critical security agencies, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the National Assembly, and other aviation stakeholders.

‎The NCAA, through the Director General, Captain Chris Najomo, on Tuesday strictly warned against passengers’ phones being on flight mode, as that option is no longer acceptable. All airline operators should make the necessary adjustments and submit them to the NCAA for approval.

The emergency meeting called for a deeper synergy between all aviation stakeholders to stand up against unruly passenger behavior and ensure the safety of everyone inside an aircraft.

‎In addition, the need to train and retrain officials regarding airport security was emphasized, as it will no longer be business as usual.

‎This stern warning comes as a result of the unruly behavior of Ms. Comfort Emmanson and Ibom Airline, who have been invited for questioning, with further investigation ongoing.
