Nigerians on social media have reacted to the empowerment program scheme by the Minister of Women’s Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye for releasing 30 tricycles and sewing machines to women.

The information was made known on Tuesday night by the Minister on her X account that the tricycles and machines are for the empowerment of women.

While speaking to newsmen, she said the initiative will help women to reduce nagging their husbands at home, assist in feeding and training their children in school while they also save money for themselves.

Ohanenye wrote on her X: “In practical fulfilment of my earlier resolve to reduce the rate of unemployment and also to ensure sustainable empowerment of women is the Introduction of the Pink Riders Transport Scheme and upgrade of our sewing factory.

“Today, I received the first batch of branded Tricycles and industrial sewing machines.

The pilot scheme of these machines especially the Pink Riders will start from Abuja before we extend to other states.

This is an era of walking our talks because Nigeria must succeed,” she said.

Many have reacted negatively, berating the Minister for her choice of empowerment.

Others believed there were better ways that she could have empowered women instead of sewing machines and tricycles.
