Minister Certificate Fraud: Secondary School Certificate Is Enough For Public Office

Post created on 12:10 pm

‎There has been an ongoing argument that all a politician needs to contest for a position in the country is just a secondary school certificate.

‎This comes following the certificate fraud allegations leveled against the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, after a report revealed that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, disowned his Bachelor of Science degree certificate.

‎UNN made it clear that the politician did not attend the institution and was never issued a certificate, and Nnaji allegedly confirmed that before Justice Hauwa Yilwa of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

‎It said the minister instituted a suit against the Minister of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC), the University of Nigeria, its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simon Ortuanya, the Registrar, a former Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oguejiofor Ujam, and the university’s Senate. However, the hearing was postponed to October 6.

‎In reaction to the certification, top echelons in politics are lending their voices to the matter, as Shehu Sani cautioned politicians on X on Monday against such acts, noting that oppositions would want to prove its authenticity and urging that with a secondary school certificate, a politician is good to go.

‎Furthermore, Peter Obi condemned the act, calling for stricter measures to check politicians’ educational backgrounds.
