Military to Persecute Officers Who Plotted to Overthrow Tinubu

In October 2025, 16 military officers who were arrested for allegedly plotting a coup to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have had their investigation concluded by the Defence Headquarters.

A statement released by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, on Monday states that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will forward the investigation report to the appropriate authority for disciplinary actions.

Part of the statement reads that findings showed that some of the officers were involved in activities inconsistent with the ethics and professional standards of the military, including allegations of attempting to undermine constitutional authority.

Those found culpable of the offenses will be arraigned before military judicial panels for trial under the Armed Forces Act and other service laws.
