Bearly two months after the xenotransplantation conducted on a 62-year-old man suffering from kidney disease by the Massachusetts General Hospital, US, Rick Slayman has been reported dead.

Slayman had been battling end-stage kidney disease until March when a genetically edited pig kidney was fixed on him to help elongate his life and address the search for kidneys in various hospitals.

On Sunday the family of Slayman paid tribute to him while giving credit to the medical team for their care all through the period.

In a statement by the hospital, they said Slayman’s death was sad but it was not attributed to the pig transplant as he would always be seen as a beacon of hope and light to xenotransplant patients around the world.
