One Micheal James from Edo State, living in Delta State, has been arrested by the state police over a self-planned kidnap to extort N25 million from his family after failing to pay back money he borrowed from his brother and sister.
James, narrating what occurred on July 1, was asked to go dispose of refuse, but instead of returning home, he left his wheelbarrow at the side of the road and escaped into the bush.
Minutes later, he called his mother to inform her that the kidnappers demanded N25 million and that since they had started beating him, he had transferred N700,000 to them. However, the mother told him that the police and vigilante were tracking him to rescue him.
With the information and rain later that day, he left the bush for another location on a motorcycle and called his family to say that he had escaped from the kidnappers.
SP Bright Edafe said the police swiftly trailed the location when James claimed he had escaped but later confessed to a self-kidnap.
