Some Nigerians are outraged over the CNG initiative by the Federal government of Nigeria as a means of reducing the cost of fuel, whereas the Malaysian Government began CNG in 1995 and is fading it out by July 2025.
The Transport Minister of Malaysia, Anthony Loke, cited the dangers of CNG tanks after being used for a longer period, and therefore, the safety of road users and the public must be prioritized.
As noted, CNG tanks have a lifespan of approximately 15 years and, when not replaced, become an issue of concern for users and their safety.
The government, however, promised to bring assistance to owners of Natural Gas Vehicles (NVG). Meanwhile, the Nigerian government is promoting CNG as a safer and cheaper method than fuel.
