Okere community is calling on the state government to look deeply into the rising tension between the Ijaws and Itsekiri youths following a breakout between both parties over billboard placement in some parts of Warri during the coronation anniversary of the monarch of Ogbe-Ijoh.
The community leaders argued that the Ijaw youths are encroaching on their land of heritage, which poses a threat to their peace and security, and they must stop such attempts.
Speaking in Warri during a press briefing on Tuesday, the image maker of the community, under the aegis of Indigenous People of Okere, Barrister David Oki, said the rule of law should be the watchword for Ogbe-Ijoh people.
They called on the state government to speedily intervene in the issue in order to restore peace to the oil-rich state and avoid a repetition of history, as the Itsekiri will not keep silent over injustice.
