Lawmaker Urges Gov Oborewori To Put An End to Hard Drug, Prostitution In Delta

A bill has been passed by the House of Assembly in Delta urging Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to take drastic measures against the rising cases of drug abuse and prostitution in the state.

The conclusion was reached after a motion was moved by Bridget Anyafulu and adopted by the house.

At the plenary, Anyafulu decried the alarming rate of open sex trade and the use of illicit drugs among youths in the state, especially in Asaba and its environs.

The House Committee on Women Affairs, Community and Social Development chair, said urgent measures must be taken to address the situation.

Backing the motion, Oboro Preyor, a member representing the people of Bomadi said the negative impact of drug abuse and prostitution calls for quick attention.

Preyor therefore call for rehabilitation for youths addicted to drugs and the government should engage them in productive activities.

Unanimously in agreement with the motion by the lawmakers, Speaker of the House, Dennis Guwor also urges law enforcement agencies to curb the rising trend.
