IED Explosion Kills One In Sapele, Injuries Others

Tension and fear gripped residents of Sapele, Okpe LGA, late Tuesday night after an explosion rocked a scrap dump site at Mission Road, killing one person and inflicting injuries on others close to the scene.

At around 6 pm on Tuesday, according to a witness report, the explosion was a result of an improvised explosion device that was unknowingly brought to the site by one of the scavengers.

The individual killed was badly affected by the blast while two others are said to be receiving treatment.

A police officer who said permission has not been granted to speak to the media said the explosion is suspected to be from a gas or fire extinguisher cylinder, but details will be unveiled after an investigation has been duly conducted.
