Ghanaians have been urged by the Minister for Tourism, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, to proudly wear the Fugu, popularly known as batakari, after serious bashing online by Zambians.
President John Dramani Mahama wore the Fugu, a northern Ghana attire, during a state visit to Zambia but was mocked online for wearing a woman’s blouse.
In order to give more popularity to the attire, every Wednesday has been set aside as Traditional Outfit Day to wear the Fugu in order to project Ghana’s identity globally.
Minister Gomashie further encouraged that wearing the outfit in all its diverse forms, designs, and expressions will provide more income to local weavers and others who benefit from its distinctive and beautiful accessories.
