Three weeks after an alleged military coup was plotted to dethrone the current administration by some Army officers, Navy, and Air Force who have since been detained in an undisclosed location by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), another raid has been conducted at a former minister’s residence in Maitama, Abuja, on Tuesday.
Sources disclosed that the Nigerian Army raided the home of the former governor and former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, in alleged connection to the coup plot.
The operation was conducted by a special military team, after intelligence report linked the former South-South governor to secret meetings allegedly held with some of the detained military officers.
Security insiders disclosed that the former governor was frequently mentioned in the case. During the raid by the team, his brother Paga was arrested while the operation extended to his residence in Bayelsa State.
No official statement has been made by the Army, but the insider noted that it was not a random search but a direct response linking some top political figures to the coup.
