The Federal Government has announced that the N40,000 sale of a 50kg bag of rice that was earlier suspended will commence to help savage the crisis citizens face in food across the country.
This was revealed by President Bola Tinubu through the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, during the flag-off of 30,000 metric tonnes of milled rice on Friday.
Speaking at the flagship event, the Federal Government attributed the high cost of food to changes in climate, the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia-Ukraine war, and other invisible forces.
Giving details by which the rice can be bought by Nigerians, Kyari revealed that only those with a National Identification Number (NIN) will be allowed to buy a bag of rice for N40,000.
Those under public service are all registered under the IPPIS scheme, and it is strictly one man/woman for a bag of rice after payments and other modalities are being followed to avoid stampedes.
The sale of subsidized rice, according to Kyari, was to crash the market prices of food.
