President Bola Tinubu has been urged by a group called the South East Youth Leaders, to extend the same hand the Beninesé authorities used for Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho and free the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, from DSS custody.

COSEYL held that Kanu and Igboho are individual freedom fighters speaking for their people.

A statement which was signed by the President-General of the group, Goodluck Ibem, said they are fully aware of the role the federal government played in securing the release of Igboho from the Benin Republic.

The statement read: “It amounts to selective justice for the Federal Government to facilitate and secure the release of Sunday Ighoho from detention leaving Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is an agitator like Sunday Igboho.

“Agitation is not a crime under the law. It is the right of any citizen, who feels shortchanged or aggrieved to agitate for his or her rights.

“We know that the Federal Government, saddled with the responsibility to protect and provide security for Nigerians, knows the right thing to do to restore security in the South East zone, which is to unconditionally release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from DSS custody as ordered by the Court of Appeal.

“The insecurity in the South East geopolitical zone is because of the unlawful incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu and the marginalisation of the people of the South East in the scheme of things.”

According to Ibem, the federal government maltreatment, and unprovoked attacks on Igbos are the major reasons for the call for a referendum by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
