FCCPC Alerts Nigerians About Fake Sugar in Markets

Post created on 9:58 am

Nigerians’ attention has been drawn to supposed substandard sugar products being sold in the markets that lack vitamin A, an essential nutrient needed for the eyes, immune system, and general well-being.

The unregistered fake sugar product, which is smuggled in from Brazil, has no label, expiry date, or even batch number, according to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

The agency, through its Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, revealed that the products are mostly seen in the South-West and North-East after a discreet investigation was conducted in markets nationwide.

Ijagwu further assured Nigerians that the products will be retracted from the market following the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) policy, which states that all products should have production, expiry, and batch numbers.
