ECOWAS Sends Troops to Benin After Failed Coup

Nigeria has sent fighter jets and a ground team to help the nation of Benin following the attempted coup that occurred on Sunday when some military officers took over the state television, announcing a takeover from President Patrice Talon.

The coup, which was foiled, has led to the arrest of a dozen soldiers, including those behind the coup.

Beninese military and security sources said around a dozen soldiers had been arrested, including those behind the coup bid.

Aside from Nigeria sending assistance to Benin, troops from Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Ivory Coast under the West African regional bloc ECOWAS have been deployed to help restore peace and order.
