In a bid to ensure a safe and conducive working environment, the Delta State Government has kicked off a two-day fire safety training workshop for ministerial safety officers at the state secretariat.
Commissioner for Special Projects, Funyei Manager, who declared the two-day training open, said the training is aimed at improving emergency preparedness and establishing a coordinated response strategy in the event of fire or other emergencies at various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, MDAs, within the Secretariat.
Manager insisted that each office must designate a trained fire safety officer to coordinate evacuations owing to the lackadaisical attitude of workers when alarms are triggered.
Also speaking at the training was the Commissioner of Bureau for Special Duties, Etagherure Terry, who stressed that safety is everyone’s responsibility and not just that of government officials or fire service personnel as he encouraged participants to share the knowledge of safety to both families and neighbours.
Meanwhile, on the issue of bad network in the secretariat, the Director of Special Projects, Emmanuel Siakpere, explained the reason for the network challenge as he assured that plans are underway to improve network in the facility for better productivity in the work space.
