All the petition cases across the 36 states still pending at the Court of Appeal regarding the 2023 election have been transferred to Abuja and Lagos.

Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, President of the Court of Appeal said all the petitions before the tribunal will now be heard and determined in Abuja and Lagos.

The order by Dongban-Mensem covers the gubernatorial, national and state assembly elections.

Justice Dongban-Mensem giving this order came as a result of protests and petitions by political parties and their candidates alleging that Judges of the tribunals were heavily compromised by the governors during the trial stage in their respective states.

Concerning the complaint, Dongban-Mensem launched discreet enquiries into the allegations against the governors and the judges of the trial tribunal.

The enquiries established the veracity of the allegations to the extent that an unholy alliance was established between some governors and judges of the tribunals, which led to the perversion of justice at the trial level.

Furthermore, the investigation indicted some of the judges who might face trial by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

According to Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi who welcomed the decision but cried over the financial aspect.

“We have the notice transferring the cases from Delta State to Lagos and we have complied. Its financial implications are huge but no sacrifice is too much to get a fair and impartial judgement,” He said.
