…Describes Publication as a Cheap Blackmail
The Delta State Traffic Management Authority, DESTMA, has described the publication of one Zik Gbemre against the agency as a calculated politically motivated baseless lies attempted to blackmail and tarnish the image of the agency and that of state government.
The Director-General DESTMA, Benjamin Okiemute, who gave the description while speaking with newsmen to refute the claims of the publication, insisted that the aforementioned road traffic offender, identified as Kingsley Oghwe, had willingly paid a fine of N30,000 on Monday after he was found guilty of driving without a seatbelt and obstructing traffic on Saturday at the traffic lights along Airport road in Warri.
Okiemute detailed that if the offender wasn’t guilty as claimed in the publication, he had the right to have taken legal actions against the agency and not come after state government through an acclaimed activist after accepting his fault and making payment tagged as extortion in the publication by Zik.
DESTMA has therefore given Gbemre 48 hours to retract his publication or face legal action, accusing him of habitually fabricating stories to blackmail individuals, particularly government officials, without proper verification.
The published article titled “Gov Oborevwori, Please Stop The Thuggery, Extortion By DESTMA”, accused state government of giving DESTMA a monthly revenue target which the DG also refuted.
