Captain Ibrahim Traore, the junta leader of Burkina Faso who took over in the September 2022 coup after toppling another junta, has stated that democracy is not for Burkinabebes and should be forgotten.

Burkina Faso’s military rule was set to end in July 2024, but the junta extended Traore’s stay in power to five years. Speaking on national television (RTB) in an interview on Thursday, the junta leader said, “We’re not even talking about elections, first of all.

“People need to forget about the issue of democracy. Democracy isn’t for us.”

Last year, the Electoral Commission in Burkina Faso was dissolved, and then in February, all political parties were dissolved.
