The Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) has enrolled nearly three million residents into its health insurance scheme, covering over 50 per cent of the state’s estimated population of 5.6 million.
The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Olorogun Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, disclosed this in Asaba following an oversight visit by the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Health, led by its Chairman, Hon. Ferguson Onwu.
Akpoveta noted that the enrollment figure places Delta State at the forefront of health insurance coverage in Nigeria. He explained that the visit, which was the committee’s second oversight exercise at the Commission this year, allowed lawmakers to evaluate performance, review operational challenges, and offer recommendations for service delivery.
He added that the legislative committee expressed satisfaction with the Commission’s progress and achievements after being briefed on its activities, affirming that the state government will continue expanding access to affordable healthcare across all local government areas.
