Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has ordered immediate medical intervention and urgent relief measures following a devastating oil spill along the Trans-Forcados pipeline in Warri South-West Local Government Area.
Speaking during an assessment visit to the affected Odidi community, Governor Oborevwori directed the State Commissioner for Health to deploy emergency medical teams to inspect residents and evaluate the health implications of the environmental pollution.
The governor, who was accompanied by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and the Chairman of Warri South-West Local Government Area, Hon. Sylvester Oromoni, declared that the state government would not leave the affected riverine communities to suffer.
Oborevwori emphasized that the state’s response would extend beyond sending relief supplies, insisting that residents require thorough medical screening due to the severe risks of prolonged exposure to crude oil contamination. He added that the state government is working with relevant agencies to ensure swift containment and comprehensive cleanup of the impacted waterways and farmland.
