A date has been set by the Federal High Court in Abuja for the hearing of a case to stop former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

According to the lawyer Johnmary Jideobi, who filed the case, the hearing will commence on Friday, May 8. Jideobi argues that Jonathan has completed his tenure and is therefore ineligible to contest; hence, the court should look into this matter for public peace.

The lawyer also sought an order to restrain Jonathan from joining any political party as a presidential candidate and to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or publishing his name for the election. Jideobi urged the court to intervene swiftly so that a political party does not select Jonathan as their candidate for the 2027 election.
