The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday nullified the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by former Senate President David Mark, invalidating all decisions taken by the committee, including the emergence of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s 2027 presidential candidate.
Delivering judgment in the suit, Justice Peter Lifu declared the Mark-led Caretaker Committee illegal, ruling that it lacked the constitutional standing to conduct the national convention and presidential primary that produced Atiku as flag bearer.
The court similarly nullified the emergence of former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, as National Secretary, alongside all other national officers and candidate nominations presented by the ADC for the 2027 general elections.
The judgment followed a suit filed by former ADC Deputy National Chairman (North-East), Nafiu Bala Gombe, who challenged the legality of the process through which Mark and committee members assumed administrative control of the party structure.
