Owing to the protest looming in Ndokwa Ukwuani Nation over blackout in the area despite hosting the Okpai Independent Power Plant, IPP, the Chairman Ukwuani Local Government Area, Possible Ajede, has disclosed that 80% of materials needed to reconnect the area to the national grid has been released to the contractor in charge.
Ajede who disclosed this after a closed door meeting with the Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, on the instruction of the state Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, said contractors have been moblized to site and are given an ultimatum to restore electricity in the area within two weeks.
Flanked by the Chairmen Ndokwa West, Obi Nzete, and Ndokwa East LGA, Vincent Osilonya, the Chairman urged the Ndokwa Nation to remain calm as the Oborevwori led administration is interested in improving the welfare of the people.
Ajede also disclosed that government is not just looking at stepping down electricity from the power plant but it’s also making plans on building turbines in areas where there are gas deposits and gas stations.
Meanwhile, Protesters from the Ndokwa Ukwuani Nation on their demand for the step-down of electricity from the Okpai Independent Power Plant, had clarified that the peaceful demonstration is not against the Delta State Government but seeks to draw attention to the irony of Ndokwa communities suffering poor electricity despite hosting a major power plant.
