Yesterday the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has given disclosure of the oil rig that collapsed on Tuesday at Ovhor in Warri, that the rig has been operating illegally since 2016 on the country’s waters.

The Head of Public Relations on NIMASA, Osagie Edward made this assertion in a press statement on Wednesday.

He said the capsized rig ‘Majestic’ is owned by Depthwize Nigeria Limited and had been operating since 2016 without the needed approvals from the Regulatory Agency.

Edward said NIMASA has, however, dispatched a team of Search and Rescue alongside marine accident investigation officers to the scene of the incident.

“In line with the mandate of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, which includes safe shipping and cleaner oceans, a team comprising of Search and Rescue and marine accident investigation officers have been dispatched to the scene of the incident involving the Majestic Rig belonging to Depthwize Nigeria Limited, which capsized at Ovhor in Warri, Delta State.
