The Forty-six-year-old Canadian-based Nigerian, Amaka Sunnberger, who spurred reactions from the House of Representatives and Nigerians in the Diaspora over her hate comments on posing Yorubas and binis, has been arrested.
In a viral video that trended on August 25, 2024, on social media, an aggrieved woman called on her fellow Igbos to go after Yorubas and binis; her identity was later revealed by Abike Dabire-Erewa, Chairman, Nigeria in Diaspora.
This made the House of Representatives urging the Canadian government to prosecute her for promoting violence, but Amaka dismissed the possibility of arrest or deportation.
However, Amaka was arrested yesterday in Toronto by the Toronto Police Service and will appear before a judge at the Ontario Court of Justice today, Monday, 2nd September 2024.
According to the Toronto Police Hate Unit Crime, the suspect’s hate speech is under investigation.
