After 10 years of Justin Trudeau in power, before announcing his resignation in January 2025, a new Prime Minister in the person of Mark Carney has been elected to take over the leadership position in Canada.
Carney, who was a former central banker, will be sworn in on Friday alongside his cabinet members.
The announcement was made by the governor general’s office on Wednesday after the 59-year-old Carney took a victorious win with 86 percent of the vote.
Making his speech on Wednesday, the newly elected leader said he was ready to sit down with US President Donald Trump to negotiate a renewed trade accord in order to avoid the ongoing tussle with Canada concerning the 25 percent levy on steel and aluminum imports.
