Passengers boarding a Max Air aircraft around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, heading to Abuja, held their hearts in their hands after one engine of the aircraft caught fire due to a bird strike immediately after takeoff.

The aircraft, carrying 100 passengers, including the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, was grateful to have escaped death at the Maiduguri International Airport.

Following the incident, after an emergency landing, some passengers in panic chose to retrieve their luggage and return home, but the Deputy Governor of Borno, along with a few others, continued their journey on a new aircraft provided by the management of Max Air.
