The Federal High Court in Abuja disqualified the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva, last night from contesting for the November 11 election in Bayelsa State.

The Court ruled that Sylva would be going against the 1999 constitution if allowed to contest again, following the petition brought by Deme Kolomo a member of the party who challenged that Sylva has been sworn twice as governor of the state and has ruled for five years.

Justice Donatus Okorowo also ruled that the governor was not qualified to run in the November poll because if he wins and is sworn in, he would spend more than eight years in office as governor.

The Federal High Court judge cited the case of Marwa vs Nyako at the Supreme Court, Okorowo noted that the constitution boldly said nobody should be voted for as governor more than two times and the parties to the suit agreed that Sylva was voted into office two times.

However, the campaign spokesman of Bayelsa APC, Perry Tukuwei, has urged the people of the state and supporters of the party not to be weary over the judgement that their candidate will win the governorship election.
