Bandits Kill, Abduct Others in Niger State

A number of people have been reported killed in a Saturday breaking-Sunday attack by bandits that stormed Kasuwan Daji market in Demo community, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, looting items and setting the market ablaze.

It is reported that over 30 people were killed during the invasion of the bandits at around 4 PM on Saturday without any resistance and stayed until the early hours of Sunday, shooting and tying up victims.

An eyewitness disclosed that the bandits emerged from the nearby National Park in Borgu LGA and carried out the attack in broad daylight, leaving the market completely destroyed. Several traders and residents are still unaccounted for, raising fears that the number of abducted persons may be higher than initially reported.

The incident has been confirmed by the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, that over 30 people lost their lives, and several others were kidnapped while efforts are being made to rescue the victims.
